All parents want the best opportunities for their children. Some people think that schools should teach children skills but others think having a range of subjects is better for a children’s future. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
The following is an essay submitted by one of our students. The text in the red colour are the comments of an IELTS teacher.
Analysis
Your understanding of the topic is flawed. The question probably is talking about skills that improve the employability of a student. It can be any skill that nearly all students can master. There are already vocational schools and colleges. In foreign countries, I guess, only those students who are actually interested in science or maths learn them. The rest choose a vocational subject of their choice. In India, however, children are forced to learn all subjects until the 10th standard even if they have no aptitude for them. Personally I believe that only students who are keen on pursuing a career in academics, research, medicine or law should have to learn those subjects. The rest should be able to acquire a skill of their choice and pursue a career in it.
Grammar was satisfactory. Content wasn’t. This is close to band 7. If content was better, this would get you band 7 or 7.5.
